Amoudara

Set on the northern side of Crete, the purpose-built resort of Amoudara is located just outside the island's capital, Heraklion. Holidays in Amoudara are centred round the three-mile long stretch of beautiful sandy beach. Tourists, and locals alike, flock to this beach to soak up the sun and try their hand at a wealth of water sports. The beach has been awarded a EU blue flag for its clean waters.

A holiday in Amoudara isn't complete without a trip to the capital, Heraklion. Here visitors can explore the archaeological museum, take a stroll round the pretty squares and narrow streets, and haggle for a bargain at the street market. Heraklion also offers excellent transport links from which to explore the entire island, including the Minoan Palace at Knossos, Spinalonga Island, and the Venetian town of Chania.

Those seeking a more hectic night of partying can head to the nearby resort of Malia. Golf-enthusiasts can practise their swing at the Porto Elounda Golf Course, 40 miles, (64 kilometres) from Amoudara.
